Together we can beat the stigma!
Period poverty is a public health crisis that is defined by a lack of access to menstrual products, education, hygiene facilities, and waste management. Women experiencing period poverty lack menstrual products and thus can't participate in school or work or other daily life activities. It can cause significant mental, emotional, and physical challenges due to the stigma surrounding menstruation.
Girl Power Central seeks to alleviate some challenges through providing detailed brochures for girls and their families to share with their network of friends. We seek to increase the education and awareness surrounding menstruation so that national legislation can be made to address the unmet needs of women.
We are a group of leaders determined to beat period poverty through safe hygiene practices, waste management education, and access to menstrual resources.
Periods are stigmatized in many cultures and countries across the world, leading to physical, mental & emotional challenges. We hope to inspire girls to have open conversations with their friends and family to directly address the stigma surrounding periods that prevents individuals from talking about it.
If we create access to menstrual education, hygiene, sanitation, and resources, then we will decrease the rates of period poverty. By directly addressing the social stigma surrounding women by acknowledging their menstrual cycles, we hope women can go about leading their normal life and bringing their full self to the world.
